I need a screwdriver
20-Jun-03
Of both types– one to get rid of the growing frustration I’m feeling today. The other to keep at my desk in case I ever need to pry up my keyboard keys and dry underneath them because I’m a clumsy dolt and knocked my water bottle all over my keyboard during lunch.
A roll of paper towels would be handy, too.
SIGH.
My copy of the new Harry Potter book, which I ordered in January, is currently in Sacramento, on its way here via overnight FedEx. I must point out that I did not pay for FedEx, but Amazon gave me a free shipping upgrade when I pointed out that they had screwed up the billing on it and that pre-ordering it in January was a good indicator that I did not wish to wait a week after its release before it would even ship. They were very obliging, but a total pain in the ass to get ahold of a Real Person, of course.
I remember the days when Amazon would upgrade your shipping or just eliminate its cost entirely, just to bolster customer loyalty. I remember when they gave out the best commuter cups ever (we have two of them, still). I remember the year Amazon.com sent out a sheet of 1-cent stamps with every shipment as a convenience to their customers when the postal rate increased a week after Christmas.
I might be busy reading this weekend. I don’t know– game is scheduled for tomorrow, but there’s a funeral that half my group is going to, and it’s in the Sierra mountains, so we might reschedule for Sunday.
I do have to clear off that pesky workbench, though. And I was planning to work on the printer table this weekend, but now I think I might have to settle for cleaning it and finding the hardware for it, just so I can have time to do the other chores I really ought to get done this week (I think I have about an hour total, not counting the workbench). and her Tall Guy are coming by tomorrow to pick it up– Tall Guy is very tall and would probably enjoy the workbench. Certainly, it is way too tall for us to be comfortable, and it sticks far enough out that we can only barely park the cars in there– so out it goes, now that the garage is to be used for garaging cars rather than junk-o-la.
Date night tonight is going to involve tools and shopping. John and I are going to OSH and Sears to get a rolling upright toolbox (the really good, red kind), some pegboard, various household odds and ends needed to finish clearing the garage, and a door. There’s a back door on our garage, and it’s bolted shut. Not like with a deadbolt. With bolts into the walls to basically make it impregnable. It would be keen if that door actually opened but had a lock on it.
Oh, I do have to mention that I’m pretty damned chipper this week. I’ve been taking iron supplements, and I think they’ve really helped me stop feeling lethargic. I wasn’t even pissed off this morning when Allegro peed on the bed at 4:30 AM: just hopped up and started stripping the sheets off– John only finally woke up after the bed was changed, he’d taken a shower, and we were back in the bed. Silly boy.
I went geocaching at lunch today– unsuccessfully. , there’s a geocache at McCarthy, if you ever feel like searching for it with me. I’ve had no luck so far and could probably use a second pair of eyes-and-brain.
