This weekend was the Partay Weekend!
Friday night was the rehearsal dinner for and his lady. It was a lot of food, a lot of wine, and great fun– I love ’s family, and Jeanette’s seems very nice as well.
Saturday was their wedding. The ceremony was at 3:30, the reception started at 6. This was also quite fun, but I had to leave somewhat early (10 ish) because I was just too tired to keep going. John dropped me off at home and then went back to the party for a few more hours. As the best man, he kind of had to be in attendance, and I didn’t want to get in the way of that.
Sunday was clean up the house and yard day. We also saw The Matrix: Reloaded Sunday evening, which was fun. Something I learned from that movie: three year old children do not belong in R-rated movies, even with a parent. I swear, I was ready to beat up the parents or the ticket seller, not sure which.
Monday was more cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. I wore myself out, and I wish I’d done more of it on Sunday so I wouldn’t be so tired when 3 PM Monday rolled around and the Memorial Day BBQ started. We had a Polynesian/tiki/islander theme for the party, with laies and rum punch and shish kebobs galore. It was wonderful. Friends brought food and drink and a good time was had, I think, by most. Much conversating, but one flaw: we didn’t have the music set up right, so we had to keep changing CDs, and we kept forgetting to do that. At 8:30, the party was wound down, with just Brian hanging around long enough for a dip in the hot tub, when Carl, Roberta, and Sharon arrived to liven things up for the next 3 hours or so (most of that time spent marinating in the tub, followed by cheesecake dessert– I had the ice cream and plum wine instead).
We managed to throw all the leftover food into the fridge before collapsing into bed at about midnight. I’ve had about 7 hours of sleep, and I think I’m still full from yesterday’s dinner. Even though I ate too much, nothing was really unhealthy, except the ice cream– a lot of fresh fruit, some hawaiian bread and french bread, kebobs with marinated beef and veggies or ham and pineapple chunks, peppers, fresh tomato-basil salad, greek cucumber salad….. but mostly fruits and veggies. Not much salty snacks, and not much sweets, unless you count all the fruit. I also worked myself ragged cleaning the kitchen and den on Monday– I even washed the floor! Yikes!
Tonight or tomorrow, John and I have to clean up the party dishes and put things away, thus returning the house to a semblance of normalcy.
It was, however, the last party we will probably have on that carpet. Say goodbye to the gross, stained blue carpet we’ve had since we moved in, everyone. New carpet is getting ordered in a couple of weeks!
