Well, if you have a Shell Account at a unix machine somewhere (some people do, some don’t– your ISP or web host would know), you can use the unix web browser Lynx.
First, you might need a secure telnet client (for SSH), like PuttySSH (Windows).
The command to start Lynx is “lynx” and you can learn more about it at ’s tutorial here
Last night’s outage of LiveJournal was regrettable, but completely not their fault– there was an outage with the upstream network provider. This happens sometimes, on any website, anywhere. They try to get reliability, but things happen.
In the future, you should bookmark http://status.livejournal.org and go there if there’s an outage. Then, when your friends IM you saying “Can you login?” you can say “No– there’s an outage that should be resolved later tonight!” and then you can be in the know and everyone will envy you and love you and probably fear you, all at the same time.
You can also read and put it on your friends list if you want to know what happened.
If you just have to write a journal entry now, you can use any text program to write your journal entry, save it to your computer’s hard drive, and post it later. The client actually has a draft save feature, but it’s Windows-only software. You can then post the entry with the old time, or use the backdate entry feature if you’ve already entered a later entry.
In fact, if you are one of those users who always seems to lose a really long post at the very wrong time, why not write them in a text program (like NotePad, SimpleText, or emacs) and then post them? It’s not the most elegant way to write in your journal account, but it does ensure that your entries won’t be lost.
