*Sob*

Not again.

Talking with my mom jogged my memory from one of my dreams last night– someone in the dream was wearing an inside-out Space Camp oversized T-Shirt (like the one I use as a nightgown).

: If you melt dry ice, can you swim in it without getting wet?
I should’ve know you’d come up with some lame-silly question….

No. When it melts, dry ice instantly evaporates into gas. This is because it is, in fact, frozen carbon dioxide, which is not stable at room temperature.

To swim in something without getting wet, you might try turning into Particle Man, who is, in fact, small enough to swim between the molecules that make up water. Thus leading to the question: does he get wet, or does the water get him?

: What is your dearest dream?
My dearest dream? I’m going to interpret this as an aspiration or hope, rather than something my subconscious decided to kick forward in the wee hours of dawn.

I think, honestly, I’m living it. Except there should be less driving, I think. And newer carpet. And I should be a better gardener and housekeeper, or have one on staff.

Seriously. I live in a beautiful house, in a gorgeous part of the world (this climate is what people go to Italy for– no kidding!) with a husband who is wonderful, and two pets who adore me and bring joy and companionship to my life. If it were perfect, the house would be a little different, and cleaner. And that thing about the driving– somehow my job would miraculously pay just as much (or more), and I would be able to bike to work. And John would be retired– because John works so very hard, and he never fully gets ahead.

Right now, the parts of my dream that are hard are finances (whose aren’t), cleaning and housework and keeping things from breaking, and finding time to do the things we both want to do, in the limited time we have available to us. The drive time is a big time-suck that way; I wish my employer had a Santa Cruz office. :)

Friday Five

I don’t usually do these, but today’s seems interesting.

1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why?
I remember playing that I was Supergirl, especially when the movie had just come out. I used to play-pretend I was every hero or heroine I read in a book. As for why: I have a very active imagination, and nobody stopped me.

BTW: I object to this question on the grounds that I still have favorite superheros, thank you very much.

2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?
A robot. It would be a friend I could play with any time that wasn’t my sister.

3. What’s the furthest from home you’ve been?
Hmmm….. I think Heidelberg, Germany is further than Paris, right? Except “home” when I was there was about 1500 miles to the right of “home” when I was in Paris. So we’ll say Paris for now.

[Pssst: My sister's been even further than I have! Clear cross to Russia for love!]

4. What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t yet?
Ummmmm…. Wasn’t this a discussion in a comments thread recently? Seriously, I am the collector o’ “how to do stuff” books. I want to learn German, Esperanto, Latin, and Spanish. I want to learn how to fix things in my house. How to fight with my sword– for real. How to program in C. And perl. And php. And SQL. How to spin yarn. How to knit (again– I used to know). How to fly an airplane. How to play harp.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Let’s see. Do the walkthrough and turn over the apartment tonight, late. Go up to Big Basin tomorrow for a campout with John, bringing the dog. Come home Sunday morning to drop the dog off and get food. Go back to Big Basin Sunday for lunch, cake, and a day hike. Come home Sunday night and collapse into my favorite chair (am I too young to have a favorite chair?)
