Auntie Carol has passed away
22-Jan-03
My great-aunt died on Monday. In a way, I’m surprised, because I didn’t expect that she was still around. My grandmother is holding together, though, which is good. She’s just upset that life is so unfair as to take her younger sister before her.
I’ve heard it said that the relationship you have with your siblings is the longest relationship you’ll have, the one that will have the deepest and longest-lasting impact on your life. And this is true, I think.
My sister has asked me to be her kids’ guardian should she die and her husband be unable or unwilling to take care of them. It’s an enormous responsibility, even if it’s a responsibility that is eternally (I hope!) dormant, never used, never needed. I’ve never planned or desired to have children, but if they were placed in my care. . . . ? So, I don’t know, but I’ve got a “date” to talk it over with John tonight or sometime soon.
