Slow, sucking day

I didn’t leave after bagels/coffee this morning, so I didn’t get envelopes and I haven’t finished sorting my photographs. My back still hurts. My nose is runny and threatening to sneeze at any second. It’s pouring rain, of course. I haven’t had lunch.

And I still don’t have a game for tonight. Grrr.

I did manage to feed to pets and I spoke with the tenant, so that’s all good. I have just over 2 hours to figure out the game and clean up the living room, which is a wreck because there are photos everywhere, somewhat sorted, but of course when I pick them all up, they will become not-sorted.

And I called all my players to confirm for tonight– all except Carl has responded and will be here– I left voice mail for Carl, and expect to see him tonight.

And we will have ham tonight. Lots and lots of ham…..

Mrph!

Well, today is kind of sucking.

I woke up with a backache again– I had one yesterday evening, probably from sitting wrong all day or something. The problem is, the backache is very similar to the ones I’ve had in the past.

Several years ago, I had this terrible backache, which I figured was a pulled muscle, that migrated to feeling like a stitch in my side (I thought I was overcompensating for the back pain and had pulled a second muscle). I let it go until I was too sick to go to the doctor, then John drove me to the Dr. and after they did a bunch of breathing/asthma tests (I explained it hurt to inhale, but I could do it if they really wanted me to!), it turned out I had a raging kidney infection.

A few years later, I had a very similar pain in my lower back on the right side. I frequently self-diagnose, because you know, I’ve had pneumonia 5 times and get really familiar with certain symptoms. So I went to the doctor and sat down and said “I have a kidney infection, but this time I didn’t let it go for 10 days, so I don’t have a fever. Yet.” And the doctor did all kinds of tests and bladder tests and it turned out I had a pulled muscle in my back.

Yep. Kidney infections and pulled muscles feel exactly the same.

And you know what I found out? Doan’s back pills will relief the pain for both of them. And because Doan’s has a fever reducer, it could also suppress the fever of a kidney infection. Which means if you have a kidney infection, you might treat it as a sore back, take Doan’s, suppress the fever (which is supposed to help kill off infection), and not know until it’s very very serious.

Okay, so I have a sore back today. I was feeling crappy when I got out of bed, ready to kill my husband who was bouncing around all happy and cheerful, while I’m sitting there with a head cold and a back that is just killing me. And about 4 days ago, there was blood in my pee. No, it wasn’t spotting– I checked several times– definitely in the urine. But that was before my back started hurting, and it was just for one evening– went away after that.

So, I was trying to tell my husband that, as he’s trying to rush me out the door for coffee and bagels. He needed to get to work this morning, and I was just– blah. I wasn’t moving very fast, and I was trying to tell him that I was having another symptom. He was there when I got so sick the first time, even though he probably, I realize now, doesn’t remember it. So he’s trying to get me moving, I’m trying to tell him what’s wrong, he says “yes, yes, you said that,” not letting me finish, and trying to remind him that I’ve had blood in my pee recently. And I just couldn’t take it. I said that I wasn’t just saying this to complain– I was trying to tell him about a medical problem, and he’s just trying to hurry me up and blow me off– and of course, by this point, I was crying.

Yep. 10 minutes after I woke up feeling like crap, I’m crying.

Sigh.

I have a lot of things to do today. I have to finish sorting the photos and put them into envelopes. For this, I need more envelopes and will probably pick up some more toothpaste and meds while I’m out. I need to do some catch-up work. I need to figure out what the adventure will be for today’s game. I need to find something for Chris to do while we game. I need to feed the dog and the cat, preferably before Hammer starts nibbling on my elbow in hunger.
