Airport Security

Forwarded from who got it from a friend of hers:
YET ANOTHER REASON WHY AIRPORT SECURITY IS RUINING OUR COUNTRY.

If you are ever asked in a poll or whatever if you would be willing to compromise some freedoms in the name of security, say NO! Say “You cannot fight for freedom while taking freedom away.” Say “Living this way just feeds into the world of fear and terror that is only beneficial to terrorists and the military industrial machine that exists now to fight them.”

When you fly this holiday, please lock your luggage. If they open it, call the ACLU and file a lawsuit for wrongful search and seizure, and invasion of privacy (since they do so without your presence). When they search you at the airport insist on standing there and watching them search your purse/carry-on bags without turning around. Make them wait to do your body cavity search until they have completed your bag search. Make the message clear: We do not trust the baggage screeners.

By the way, my father is a baggage screener. It’s not that I distrust him or don’t think he should have his job. It’s that I believe– and I have yet to be proved 100% wrong– that any system that grants people that much power with no real checks or balances or proper oversight leads only to an abuse of power.

Upcoming deadline

Note to self and fellow science fiction writers: Norwescon’s Writers Workshop (April 17-20 in Seattle) has a deadline of January 31 for short story manuscripts.
