Provided the paperwork that SJSU’s English Dept. needed to do was filled out correctly, I officially was awarded my Master of Arts degree in English today.
For a ceremony to mark the occassion, I am cleaning the bathroom, something I think I last did when I enrolled. . . .
John & I saw Real Women Have Curves tonight for date night. We haven’t had dinner yet, and might not eat at all (lunch was pretty big for me!)
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was one of those Great movies you see once in a while. You know, the kind that makes you sit up and say “hey! That’s a terrific movie!” It’s the kind of movie you want your 13 year old daughter or neice to see. The kind of movie you wish you’d seen when you were fifteen.
I might add more later. My favorite scene is the underwear scene. It “makes” the movie.
The movie, like life, does not have some satisfying Hollywood tie-it-all-up-in-a-bow ending. It just doesn’t have that. Life doesn’t have that, sometimes. And, well, that’s the way it is. It makes me long for the next chapter, but realize that the next chapter’s less important than the start of the book in this case.
Anyway, if you have a teenaged girl in your life, take her to see this movie. Even if you don’t, go see it. If you are the kind of person who only sees movies with stick-thin girls with big boobies and stuff that explodes, go see this movie, because honestly, you need to be exposed to a beautiful story.
