Talkies

This amuses me greatly (though in a “right on, Wil!” way), because of the time KPax was so incredibly ruined by the entire 7th grade class from Scotts Valley Middle School showing up and talking through the whole movie (KPax was not, by the way, rated such that the 7th graders could have been there without their parents, who were no-where to be seen, of course).

Friday Five

In keeping with My ‘recipe’ for Spaghetti Western, I thought I’d answer the Friday Five.

1. What’s your favourite recipe to cook at home?
To cook at home. Probably Chicken in Wine Sauce, with a side of wild rice and cooked veggies (green beans are a good choice). The chicken takes over an hour to cook and ends up making the whole house smell like wine and garlic. Yum!

2. How often do you eat out? Get a take-away?
I eat breakfast out every day, lunch out 5 times a week, and have dinner out at least once a week. I get take out maybe once or twice a week.

3. Tell me about a dish or recipe that reminds you of your childhood?
Beef stroganoff– Mom made this for me the night I had pneumonia and we had a girl scout meeting going on downstairs that I couldn’t go to. I love beef stroganoff–Mom made it with leftover hunks of rump roast from fondue night (another favorite). When I was a vegetarian, I would have mushroom stroganoff– not quite as good, but still delicious.

4. Do you eat for comfort? If so, what’s your chosen comfort food?
Of course I eat for comfort! I eat for almost any emotional reason whatsoever. It’s hard to say what my chosen comfort food is– chocolate is pretty high on the list. So is garlic bread, actually. Girl scout cookies. Cookies in general. Oh, hell, now you’re making me snacky.

5. What is the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten, and what was it like?
I go out for authentic Chinese food with the other folks in the software department, who are all Chinese. Last time, I had tripe, which tasted kind of the way you would expect it to taste– a bit rubbery and kind of tasteless otherwise. I eat sushi and don’t think it’s unusual at all, although uncooked eel tastes exactly how you’d expect uncooked eel to taste, and I don’t particularly like it. Also, some people think I’m a complete freak for eating peanut shells. . . sometimes without the peanut at all. “Unusual” is a culturally-charged word, frankly. What’s normal for me is repugnant to others, and vice versa.
