It bothers me that CNN’s major stories are all about the DC sniper– and I mean ALL about the sniper– and I have to scroll down to see that Saddam Hussein freed all the prisoners in Iraq, except for those suspected of spying for the US or Israel.
What? Am I missing something, or is the sudden release of thousands of murderers and rapists in our country’s #1 enemy-of-the-week not newsworthy enough to bump The Sniper off of the headlines for, perhaps, an hour or so? Shouldn’t we perhaps pause for a moment and ponder the fact that basically the message is clear: Saddam Hussein wants his people to think that the only crime worthy of being punished for is spying for the US or Israel– not just espionage, mind you, but espionage for these two particular enemies.
Could we not, maybe, realize that there are now thousands of suddenly loyal men, fully capable of criminal acts, who are now free to serve in Saddam’s armies or to join the forces opposing George W. Bush, the United States, and Israel? Is it any surprise that this act comes just as the U.S. is reporting a major increase in “chatter” on Al Qaeda channels?
Nope. Instead, it’s SniperFest. Sniperwatch. Sniperpalooza. If they find a government connection, it’ll be SniperGate.
Oh, my god, the media’s priorities are SO FUCKED UP!
At least it’s not the dog case or another celebrity killing a spouse.
