Picture from Baseball night

John finally got my computer fixed: USB works now, and the whole system is using the multi-processing capability (including the second processor, ahem) that it has built-in! Wooo hooo! The only problem now is getting the

Oh, and how about that new userpic? That’s my dear hubby John at Hurricane Electric, the co-location facility we use for our servers, and where we picked up the main hardware for my Linux box.

John’s rack usually has one or more penguin stuffies from Penguin Computing, where he bought most of his servers (or, rather, 3Com bought the servers they eventually gave him). Oh, and why is that important? For a while there, the “rule” was that you had to re-arrange the stuffies into new positions whenever you went to the co-lo. Most of the stuffies have gone home now, but I thought it was a cute tradition.

Thank You notes

Just wrote thank you notes to my mother in law (for the gift certificate I used to buy the books on Friday), and to Grandma C, who sent two columes out of her personal collection: The Life and Death of Richard Yea-and-Nay by M. Hewlett, ca. 1901. Yes, these are books that are over 100 years old– not the contents, the books. I have no idea how to read them. Obviously, I can’t drink coffee, but is it too anal to wear gloves?

And then I think about the antique quilt on the antique bed in which we sleep every night. Yeah, just read them and enjoy them. That’s what they were made for.

Sundays aren’t so bad, either.

Heh heh heh.

Well, ok, so I only got about 6 hours of sleep last night, and therefore have a headache that’s bugging me. Grumble. So what.

I ran the game last night, which was fun, if a little bit (ok, a lot) scattered. But I knew the risks when I took the job– it was worth it. I did a better job this week of trying to keep people focused on the game, though we still side-tracked a lot. Chris’s character got to do her solo adventure, which I am sure she enjoyed, and everyone except Sharon’s character gained enough XPs to advance in level. That’s good, actually– Sharon’s PC recently advanced and can wait, at least a little bit, before going up again.

Today I’m going to go check out the new gaming shop here in Scotts Valley, see what goodies they’ve got and probably pick up a few more random dice. I’ve lost a few important dice, like a couple of d20s, including my black one, and my 10’s d10 for the black set as well. This is important because I want to be able to pull together a set if needed to loan to the players. Of course, we stopped by there this morning and discovered that it was closed on Sunday mornings until noon. Chuckle. I’ll just bet they’re at church!!!

Sometime, hopefully today, I will get USB working on my Linux box (or my dear husband will) so I can get all the pictures off of my digital camera. I’ve got full 8 MB and 32 MB cards and a 128 MB card that isn’t even close to being full .

There’s a couple of good ones of me & my Mom on the 128 MB card– from when we went to the Royals game. Spiffy. I want to get them off of the camera so I can send them to her.

Oh, and coolness of the week/month/year: My sister is making me some scrapbooks of my childhood pictures and such. She wants me to mail her the pictures I have here at home that I want to put in there. I don’t even know where to start– I have so many pictures, and they’re all so poorly organized!

I’m really glad she’s doing this for me, though, because I would never do it myself. And she does really beautiful scrapbooks, too. Jen’s a very creative person to begin with (we both are– who would’ve guessed?), and the baby books she’s done for her kids are just amazing. I mean, I can follow a pattern if you give one to me (like for a cross-stitch project), and I can generally speaking draw things now that I’ve actually taken a class and all. But she can look at a bunch of things that look like clutter to the rest of the world and decide how to fit them together and make them not-clutter.

It’s one reason why she’s so good when she decorates a room or house, and why I’m glad she’s making me the scrapbooks. Right now, all of my pictures and such are just kind of shoved into a bookcase, very haphazardly.

Anyway, it’s almost noon now, so I’m going to go pick up my gaming things from last night and get ready to go to the store.
