Muckabout
21-Sep-02
No, that’s not “MUCK” as in a MU*, those time-eating games that lost me an entire semester of college!
That’s me mucking around the house today.
This morning, John & I went out for mochas/breakfast. Mmmm. A great discovery: our local Non-Starbucks coffeehouse offers free Wi/Fi for patrons. Wheee!! John’s trying to see if he can change his schedule from: get out of bed, check email/CNN/server logs, shower, dress, nag Steph about mocha, go to mocha, go to work. Into: get out of bed, shower, dress, nag Steph about mocha, go to mocha, check email/CNN/server logs, go to work.
I pointed out that our mocha time is time we spend together and not in front of computers. My argument kind of fell on deaf ears, but oh, well. When I’m off again for the shutdown (first week of October), maybe I’ll go down to the coffeeshop with the wireless laptop and hang out down there for a while.
I fixed my mom’s website this morning. I added the Halloween schedule and icon– go check it out. If you’ve been to my journal (as opposed to just reading me on your Friends list), you’ll recognize it a bit. ![]()
Last night, during our date night, I bought two books with my gift certificate to Bookshop Santa Cruz (a lovely gift from lovely Karen, my mother-in-law). I got The Annotated H.P. Lovecraft and Neil Gaiman’s new “children’s” book Coraline. Some great tales to scare me silly next month! Wooo! Spooooky!
Tonight is the game. I’m looking forward to it, although it’s going to be one of those “lacks direction” evenings. It’s a between-adventure game night, which means the wrap-up of previous adventure, catching up one of the PCs to the rest of the party (I havea solo adventure for her, which means ignoring the rest of the players for a couple of hours– John has kindly volunteered to run a James Bond fest during the game, though I don’t know how well that will work with this group of players– probably OK), a role-playing encounter that they have scheduled, and setting up the next adventure for them to begin.
The Sears repairman is here to fix the stove. . . again. For those who don’t know, our stove has this really crappy component in it that’s basically its on-board computer. Well, this is now the second time that it’s broken. When it breaks, it starts beeping, as if the timer were going off. Except, of course, it won’t stop!!!. So the damn thing beeps and beeps and beeps and drives you crazy all night long. . . . I came home from work one day and the damn thing was beeping, with no idea how long it had been going on. Clearly, it was driving Hammer crazy, though, as he had gotten “playful” with certain unauthorized items (non-toys, like books, magazines, paper towel rolls, bubble wrap, etc.)
