Cthulhu saves! (It might get hungry later)

I posted this in a friend’s journal, but felt it belonged in mine, too:
Background: I bought a stuffed-animal Cthulhu doll at ConJose last weekend. It’s about 5″ tall, green plush, with wings.

My stuffy Cthulhu started making demands of me immediately. First, it wanted to be purchased and to go home with me. It pointed out (rightly) that I have almost nothing personal in my cubicle, and if I’m going to let my soul be sucked away in cubicle-land, I might as well let it go to good use. Then, it wanted a button to wear. I got it the one that reads “What part of ‘Phn’glui mglw’nafh Cthuhlhu R’lyeh wagn’nagl fhtagn’ didn’t you understand?” Which made no sense to me, but Cthulhu-stuffy seems to like it (note: I did eventually get a translation– basically, Cthulhu sleeps and waits in an underwater city named R’lyeh). Finally, I bought a copy of Mountains of Madness , so that I would at least have some idea what I’m getting myself into. Yes, I am one of those rare folks who does not know Lovecraft all that well. Its latest demand is to put velcro on its butt and sew the other side to a baseball hat so it can be more portable, and I may very well have to do that in time for Silicon. . . . Erp.

Bum knee.

Well, my left knee has been hurting now for 5 days. It’s officially f-ed up. Damn. My feet are starting to feel better, though, so perhaps I can start walking more and maybe strengthen that knee and make it stop hurting. That would be nice. No pain = good.

I had a disturbing dream last night. It was about 6-12 months in the future, and I was visiting with my sister and her family and my mom in a casino hotel. I think we were in Vegas, but I’m not sure. They had one of those claw games in the lobby, only it only picked up and dropped handguns. I won one of them, but left it behind, and then I won two more. I brought them over to where my sister and the kids were and showed them to her, and the kids went ape-shit. They wanted the guns. Lizzie started bawling because she couldn’t have one, and I told them when they were 12, their dad might let them have (or touch) a rifle, but no handguns.

Well, it turned out that I could take the guns to the counter and exchange them for a more appropriate, family-oriented prize. We got free tickets to a family show, something like a circus or some such. I didn’t dream the show, but I remember I was really relieved that I didn’t have to keep the guns.

Earlier in the night, I had a dream about aliens, but I couldn’t remember it after I woke up in the morning (though I know I remembered it when I woke up in the middle of the night). I remember it was kind of creepy/scary, like alien pregnancy or something, but not the “screaming terror in the middle of the night” kind of scary.

I installed Neverwinter Nights this week and have been playing it this week. It’s ok, but I’m looking forward to more modules and being able to write my own. Right now, I want to play through it to see where it takes me, and then maybe get into more detail. One definite drawback: You can’t go back to previous quests after you finish a chapter. This sucked because I wanted to go finish some of the minor quests I was on, but the entire city was closed off after I finished Chapter 1. So, I’m starting over and going through all the quests I can find.
